Abstract:
One of the most unexpected discoveries from JWST is the abundant population of "little red dots" (LRDs) at high redshift. Yet their true physical nature remains unclear, further obscured by the variety of selection methods and definitions used across studies. In this talk, I will discuss the current evolution between a selection-based definition of an LRD and an understanding of the LRDs are a physical phenomena. In particular, what properties do LRDs share in common, how do their properties differ/correlate, and what can the exceptions within the LRD population teach us about what they are, or what they are not.
