קולוקוויום בפיזיקה

Over the last decade, new types of 1D nano-objects like semiconducting nanowires, carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoribbons have been successfully synthesized, manipulated and electrically connected. Their fundamental studies unravel remarkable 1D electronic properties driven by an extreme confinement at nano-scale. Their engineering opens new routes for the future of nanoelectronics, with potential applications in the field of high frequency transistors, digital logic devices or spintronics. However, a deep experimental characterisation of the unusual 1D electronic band structure of these promising nano-objects remains challenging and constitutes the main objectives of our studies.

Our strategy consists in playing with electronic transport measurements on single nano-objects, in the open quantum dot regime, and under extreme experimental conditions of magnetic field and temperature. In this talk, an overview of (magneto)-transport experiments performed on individually connected carbon nanotubes, graphene nano-ribbons and III-V semiconductor nanowires will be addressed. Evidence will be given that transport measurements up to 60T, in the ballistic or weakly diffusive regime, along with a control of the electrostatic doping, provide a direct spectroscopy of the 1D electronic band structures and their magnetic field dependence.
