ברכות לפרופ' אדם מוריסון
על זכייה בפרס Strage-BGU למצויינות במחקרי סייבר לשנת 2022.
On behalf of the Strage-BGU Cyber Award committee, it is our great pleasure to announce that
the winner of the 2022 Strage-BGU Cyber Award for Excellence in Cyber Research is Prof. Adam Morrison
from Tel-Aviv University.
Prof. Morrison has made many important contributions to the security of processor, network and
system architecture, especially in the context of micro-architectural side-channel attacks. Understanding
the security vulnerabilities in this domain and designing techniques to mitigate the attacks that exploit
these vulnerabilities have become crucial for the security of a large proportion of systems and users.
Prof. Morrison's work in this space includes designing novel mechanisms to defend against attacks on memory
management and speculative execution, an analysis of the spread of vulnerabilities in the wild, and construction
of new attacks, which will require mitigation in the future.
Prof. Morrison’s research was recognized globally multiple times over the past years. Among other awards,
his works were granted the Inaugural Intel Hardware Security Academic Award, the 2021 Facebook Internet
Defense Prize, and a Distinguished Paper award at the 30th USENIX Security Symposium. Prof. Morrison’s
research also had an impact outside academia and was nominated as a finalist for the 2021 Pwnie Award
for Most Innovative Research, granted the top prize of the CSAW (MENA) Applied Research Competition, and
listed in the US National Vulnerability Database (NVD). Prof. Morrison’s security research was also discussed in
international media and resulted in changes to the source code of the Linux operating system, demonstrating
the long-lasting impact of his work on the field of cyber security.
Congratulations to Prof. Morrison from the Strage-BGU Cyber Award Committee!
